Merry Christmas from us at rather barefoot than bookless

We hope that you all will have a very merry Christmas with your family and friends!

what are your family traditions?
In my family and really in this country (Sweden) we celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve. We eat a Christmas lunch before it is time for Christmas cartoon at 3pm with coffee and sweets of course. It is all the traditional cartoon with santa´s workshop and ship ´n´ dale and all the others.
And then it is time for the presents and usually one of my sisters is Santa and is responsible for the presents.
And if there is still any room for it in the evening there is cake. Yeah I know a bit over the top with the food right? And really I usually feel like I will roll instead of walk in like a week afterwards.
Today I am (cecilia) the one responsible for the saffron buns with vanilla! And if I may say so my self they are awesome!

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Here is a swedish christmas song I really like by Carola

Book review: Adventures in funeral crashing by Milda Harris

Adventures in Funeral Crashing (Funeral Crashing #1)Author: Milda Harris
Title: Adventures in Funeral Crashing
Series: Funeral crashing #1
Genre: Young adult chick lit mystery
Purchase: Amazon, B&N
My rating:

About the book:
Sixteen year old Kait Lenox has a reputation as the weird girl in her high school, mostly because of her ex-best friend turned mean popular girl, Ariel, but maybe it has a little to do with the fact that Kait has a hobby crashing funerals. At one of these, Kait is outted by the most popular guy in school, Ethan Ripley. Yet, instead of humiliating her for all the world to see, he asks for her help, and Kait finds herself entangled in a murder mystery. Not only is the thrill of the mystery exciting, but more importantly Ethan knows her name! A little sleuthing is well worth that

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this really cute and simple young adult mystery. It was a really easy going mystery book with a little romance for good measure.

I really liked Kait the main character. She is a social outcast who likes to read books watch movies and crash funerals. Not strange at all just a regular teenage girl with a kind of unusual hobby that leads Kait right in to a investigation of a murder. Kait is such a sweet person and she is determent to find out the truth and of course it does not hurt that the most popular guy in her high school is her partner in their quest for the truth.

I also really like Kait´s side kick Ethan. He is really down to earth and a really nice guy despite his status as the most popular guy in school, even though he thought Kait did drugs or was related to drugs in some ways but hey doesn´t everyone believe in gossip every once in a while?

This was such a cute and fun book and I really enjoyed it a lot. I would definitely recommend it to others especially if you like a good mystery!

Book review: Spiritus by Dana Michelle Burnett

Author: Dana Michelle Burnett
Title: Spiritus
Series: A spiritus novel book 1
Genre: Young adult, paranormal romance
Format: e-book
Purchase: Amazon | B&N
Rating:

About the book:
As I watched him vanish into a soft mist that faded away, I knew that he was no ordinary spirit I knew that he was a dangerous entity that could be in some corner of another realm planning his revenge, but I also knew that I was hopelessly in love with him.
When Becca moves into her ancestral home in Corydon, Indiana, her life takes a puzzling and thrilling turn when she meets the ghost haunting the halls. As the seductive spirit lures her closer and closer, she learns about her own past and starts to understand that some mistakes are meant to last.

Becca McAllister has always been different from other girls her age. Never part of the "in crowd", Becca never really fit in anywhere. When her mother dies and her father moves them to the small town of Corydon, Indiana, Becca didn't expect things to change.
But things do change when Becca accidentally makes contact with a one hundred and sixty year old ghost, Alastor Sinclair, that haunts the halls of her new home.
To Becca, Alastor is a seductive spirit that seems to see straight into her soul. To Alastor, Becca is what he was waited a century for--A second chance.
But the closer they get, the more Becca realizes that this isn't the first time she and Alastor have known each other. Worse still, is she the one responsible for his death so long ago? And if so, did he come back for love or revenge?

My thoughts:

WOW! This book was so captivating and it was impossible to put it down. I didn´t want it to end but unfortunately as every book it did end but it will be a sequel and I just can´t wait for it to be released!

This was a love story that defied time, space and even death. It was a truly amazing book with a lot of suspense between Becca and Alastor I mean love but without being able to touch each other? That can not be very easy.

I love the character of this book but especially Alastor! Wow I mean he is just..... Well there are no words really, you just have to read and found out for your self. He is captivating all in himself. The difficulties they face with their love is great and it gets a lot more complicated when Alastor gets some competition by a boy that is alive and someone Becca can actually touch. There is a lot of love but also jealousy between them. But the biggest question is: Why is he there exactly?

An awesome book but it was to short, I didn´t want it to end yet and there is much more to this book and it ended really dramatically I think. I get this feeling that the sequel to this book will be completely awesome! I recommend this book to everyone. This is a must read in my list and it is definitely one of the best books I´ve read this year!

Book review: Feyland: The dark realm by Anthea Sharp

Author: Anthea Sharp
Title: Feyland: The dark realm
Series: Feyland series #1
Genre: Young adult fantasy
Format: Paperback, e-book
Purchase: Amazon | B&N
Release date: december 16th 2011
Rating:

About the book:
WHEN A GAME…
Feyland is the most immersive computer game ever designed, and fifteen-year-old Jennet Carter is the first to play the prototype. But she doesn’t suspect the virtual world is close enough to touch — or that she’ll be battling for her life against the Dark Queen of the faeries.
TURNS REAL…
Tam Linn is the perfect hero — in-game. Too bad the rest of his life is seriously flawed. The last thing he needs is rich-girl Jennet prying into his secrets, insisting he’s the only one who can help her.
WINNING IS EVERYTHING…
Together, Jennet and Tam enter the Dark Realm of Feyland, only to discover that the entire human world is in danger. Pushed to the limit of their abilities, they must defeat the Dark Queen… before it’s too late.

 My thoughts:

I really like the concept of this book, it felt fresh and fun. I have never been much of a gamer and have never really understood how people can get so hooked by it so at first I was a bit hesitant to read a whole book about a game but i was pleasantly surprised. It was awesome. The author was really good at describing the game in way so you got a feeling for it but it didn´t make you want to skip those parts of the book and that is really good. She made the describing of the game fun and interesting. When I read the book it felt like I was in the future but I´m not sure if that is what the Author intended or not. It is so cool how the game is like a bridge between the land of humans and the land of fey.

I really like Jennet and Tam as characters. They feel so real and they actually act their age in a way I sometimes think is missing in YA books. Very often they act like adults but in this book I can buy that they are only teenagers and not adults in the way they act and I like that.
This book was really fun and interesting with a bit of romance on the side. It was a great book and I am looking forward to the next part of the story in her upcoming novel.

Book review: Symphony of blood by Adam Pepper

Author: Adam Pepper
Title: Symphony of blood, a Hank Mondale supernatural case
Series: None
Genre: Adult, supernatural thriller
Format: e-book, kindle edition
Purchase: Amazon
Rating:

About the book:
Hank Mondale, a rough-around-the-edges P.I. with a small drinking problem and a large gambling problem, needs a break. With his landlord threatening eviction and his bookie threatening worse, things look bleak. Until real estate mogul Thomas Blake calls with an incredible story: a monster is trying to kill his daughter.

Hank figures she's probably some whacked-out spoiled brat, but desperate, Hank takes the case to track down the supposed monster. It seems that people around Mackenzie Blake are disappearing. It's obviously no coincidence. Was Hank hired to unwittingly aid a wealthy murderess? Or is there really someone...or some thing, trying to kill Mackenzie Blake?

A symphony plays that only It can hear. But there will be a special performance, just for her.

My thoughts:

This book is seriously creepy and now I remember why I don´t usually read thrillers! They are way to creepy and I have nightmares for days if they are well written.

This book was partly kind of boring and partly creepy. This book is written from two perspectives, from the P.I. Hank Mondale´s and from It´s perspective. When the story was told from Hank´s view it was kind of boring and I found it difficult to continue reading. His whole personality was boring and lazy. He is not a very likable person. Then we get to read the story from the monster It´s view and then it got seriously creepy. The way it thinks and describe things just gets under my skin and I found it hard to continue reading because it creped me out. And it is not the only disturbing person in this story. There are someone else that is really horrible.

I would think that this novel is really good and it is very well written no doubt but it was not for me. If you thrillers and if you like things to be described in a way that it will be hard to get that image out of your head then this is for you. If you do not like that then you should stay away from this book. I wish I had. The images this book gave me will be hard to forget.

I actually give this
book 3.5 stars
About the book:

Alex Kosmitoras’s life has never been easy. The only other student who will talk to him is the school bully, his parents are dead-broke and insanely overprotective, and to complicate matters even more, he’s blind. Just when he thinks he’ll never have a shot at a normal life, a new girl from India moves into town. Simmi is smart, nice, and actually wants to be friends with Alex. Plus she smells like an Almond Joy bar. Yes, sophomore year might not be so bad after all.

Unfortunately, Alex is in store for another new arrival—an unexpected and often embarrassing ability to “see” the future. Try as he may, Alex is unable to ignore his visions, especially when they begin to suggest that Simmi is in danger. With the help of the mysterious psychic next door and new friends who come bearing gifts of their own, Alex must embark on a journey to change his future.

My thoughts:

I really liked this book. It was really interesting to read about Alex a blind 16-year old boy who sees the future. The most interesting about the book is that it is written from a blinds perspective. You will never know what the people look like in the book. But you do get to know them. Alex describes them by the smell. His mother always smell like flowers and Simmi like a almond bar. Their friend Shapri smells like new clipped grass. It is really different. You sort of feel like you are blind too since everything you see you see through the way things feel or smell.

I like Alex he is a really nice guy but sometimes a bit impatient and stubborn. I also think that he sometimes does not know what he thinks and wants with certain things and he is such a guy at times.

It was really good and enjoyable but it wasn´t fantastic and I had no problem to let the book go after I was finished. I do hope there will be a sequel and that it will then give more to this story because I feel like there is so much more to this story that needs to be told. I most definitely think you should read it don´t let the 3.5 stars scare you. But I read so many books and I can´t give 4 and 5 stars to everything I read. It is a witty and entertaining read that will give you a nice reading time.
