I recently found out that Susan Wiggs also writes historical fiction and not only contemporary.
I love that because I love her contemporary romance´s. So I´m thinking that she should do well with historical romance as well. I hope so I have not read the one I bought yet but I wanted to share it with you anyway. Wiggs has a really warm way of telling stories. They are mostly very cozy so I hope this one is  as well. You can read more about Susan Wiggs at goodreads and on susanwiggs.com

This week will be a little different from other weeks, because I haven´t actually read anything by this author BUT it was highly recommended to me by my little sister who has. Gabaldon has written a series about a woman who travels back in time to the 1700´s. She find love and is torn between to men and is part of many great adventures. Doesn´t this sound great? A little time traveling, romance in a historical environment, and adventures in a book with over 700 pages and that is not all! This is the first in a series of 8 books! Read more about Diana Gabaldon on goodreads and on dianagabaldon.com

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon--when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach--an "outlander"--in a Scotland torn by war and raiding Highland clans in the year of Our Lord...1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life...and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives

This week I am featuring an author who I encountered a long time ago. I was just walking by my book case when her book catches my eye and I thought to my self. Well why not, I really enjoyed this book so it will be perfect for this feature. I was however filled with both horror and enjoyment when I read this one. You will know why when you read it. But that is sort of why I like this author, they way you just cat decide if you want to throw away the book or keep on reading. One minute you feel sorry for the heroine and in the next you hate her or at least the way she acts

The Fourth Queen is the story of one woman’s struggle for power and love in the court of the eighteenth-century Emperor of Morocco. Poetically intense and sensual, it marks the debut of a gifted new author.
Beautiful Helen Gloag is determined to escape the cycle of poverty and early death that has destroyed so many women in her native Scotland. Barely out of her teens, she flees her hometown and sets sail for the Colonies on a ship bound for Boston. But the ship falls prey to a band of corsairs—pirates from the Barbary coast of Africa. Helen is taken captive and sent to a procuress in Morocco, where women are sold into the slave markets of the nobility. In the procuress’s house, she is discovered by the witty, soft-hearted dwarf Microphilus, who oversees the Harem of the Emperor himself. Knowing her red hair and milky skin will enthrall his master, he takes her to Marrakech, and the imperial palace.
The Harem of the Emperor is a mysterious, voluptuous, and forbidding place, a hive of dangerous political tensions and unlikely friendships. Microphilus, himself a Scot captured by pirates as a young man, has found his fortune in the Emperor’s Harem, where he serves the Queens, including the charismatic, amazonian African empress Batoom, who is his lover. With Microphilus’s help, Helen learns to negotiate the politics of the Harem and compete for the Emperor’s favor.

Historical Romance Saturday: Brenda Novak

In this feature we will highlight an Author and a book in the historical romance genre that we or one of us really like. But it is mostly about the book. It sort of like a recommendation of a really great read.
*****************

This week I wanted to share another author that is quite new to me, Brenda Novak. She is not only a historical romance writer and also writes contemporary romance. The book I read by her is a historic suspense romance. She has a great writing style. She has a way to really catch your interest and keep it. She is also very good at describing the feelings between the characters and the electric atmosphere that surrounds her main characters. This is also a author who writes from two perspectives. Both from her female main character and her male main character and that is a style I really enjoy. Like most historical romances I have read she writes in third person.
Find out more about Brenda Novak on goodreads and her blog Brendanovak.com

The book I want to share with you is the first in a series called High seas adventures

Of noble birth by Brenda Novak

To escape her cruel stepfather, seamstress Alexandra Cogsworth envisioned sailing far from England...though not as a captive aboard a pirate's ship.

Pirate Captain Nathaniel Kent's strategy for exacting revenge on his cold-hearted father involved taking a valuable hostage...not a seamstress he mistakenly thinks is his half sister.

Yet fate has designs of its own, landing them both on board the Royal Vengeance. At sea, Nathaniel intercepts and plunders his father's ships, all the while tormented by his illicit hunger for the tempting prisoner he thinks is his blood relation. And although Alexandra wants no part in this terrifying voyage, to reveal her true identity to the handsome, blue-eyed Nathaniel would invite danger. Not only would she become worthless cargo, but the revelation would surely unleash what she and Nathaniel have been fiercely battling - a rising undercurrent of impossible desire that could sweep them away for good.

All books in the 'High seas adventure' series:
Of noble birth #1
The bastard #2

Historical Romance Saturday: Vicky Dreiling

This our very first HRS on rather barefoot. In this feature we will highlight an Author and a book in the historical romance genre that we or one of us really like. But it is mostly about the book. It sort of like a recommendation of a really great read. And do not hesitate to leave a recommendation if you want to in our comment section or your url if you have made your own HRS.

This week I chose the Author Vicky Dreiling for this feature. You can find out more about her on goodreads or on her blog Vicky Dreiling

It was not long ago that I was introduced to this Author and I think it was a review on some blog (I can´t remember which one) that caught my eye. I thought the book sounded interesting and it really was. I really like Dreilings writing style. She writes with a lot of humour and her stories are quite lovely and not overly detailed on the sex scenes. Sometimes it can be to much but it is not in the two books I´ve read by her. I also like that we get to know both characters in the books and we get to read the guy´s point of view-

So on to the book I wanted to show you. It is the first book in the 'How to' series.......

How to Marry a Duke by Vicky Dreiling

Tristan, the Duke of Shelbourne is a man with a mission: find a wife he can tolerate as long as they both shall live. Love is not necessary--nor desired. But how to choose among a dizzying array of wealthy-yet-witless candidates? Hire London's infamously prim and proper matchmaker. Then pretend she's not the most captivating woman he's ever met...

Helping a devilish Duke create a contest to pick his perfect mate is the kind of challenge Tessa Mansfield relishes. Her methods may be scandalous, but she's determined to find the notorious bachelor more than a wife--she'll bring him true love. Yet when Tessa watches the women vie for the Duke's affections, she longs to win his heart herself. And after a stolen kiss confirms Tristan's desire, Tessa knows she has broken a matchmaker's number one rule: never fall in love with the groom.

All books in the how to series:
How to marry a duke #1
How to seduce a scoundrel #2
how to ravish a rake #3
