Charlie’s the kind of boy that no one notices. Hell, even his own mother can’t remember his name. And girls? The invisible man gets more dates. As if that weren’t enough, when a mysterious clockwork man tries to kill him in modern day Philadelphia, and they tumble through a hole into 1725 London, Charlie realizes even the laws of time don’t take him seriously. Still, this isn’t all bad. In fact, there’s this girl, another time traveler, who not only remembers his name, but might even like him! Unfortunately, Yvaine carries more than her share of baggage: like a baby boy and at least two ex-boyfriends! One’s famous, the other’s murderous, and Charlie doesn’t know who is the bigger problem. When one kills the other — and the other is nineteen year-old Ben Franklin — things get really crazy. Can their relationship survive? Can the future? Charlie and Yvaine are time travelers, they can fix this — theoretically — but the rules are complicated and the stakes are history as we know it. And there's one more wrinkle: he can only travel into the past, and she can only travel into the future!

My thoughts

This book was sooo good! I loved it. it felt fresh, fun, really exciting and unpredictable, it was a perfect mix.
This book was really well written with a well thought out plan of the story. I felt like the author thought of everything and not once was I questioning the logic behind the traveling or how it was all connected. I felt drawn inside the story from page one. I was intrigued by this really complicated story. I felt like I was right there with Charlie when he lands right inside 1700´s London. Gavin is a great story teller and has an eye for details.

I really like that we get to see the dirty side of history and not just the romantic ballrooms and fancy dresses that historic romance novels often portray. This is a love story that take place in the poorest and dirtiest place of the society. It feels very real and dangerous at the same time. The 1700's isn't the safest place to be when you don't have a dime on you and have to play house with a gang of thieves.

You just have to love Charlie. He is such a great character. funny, brave and sometimes really stupid just like it ought to be when you are 16 and infatuated with a girl. And you really feel sorry for him when you first meet him. No one can seem to remember his name and his own mother needs to have post it notes all over the house with his name written on it just so she wouldn't forget his name. That is just heartbreaking.

This was a great book that will keep you on your toes. You never knows what will happen around the corner and when you turn a page everything you think you have figured out is probably wrong. How cool is that! I love that I have to keep guessing to the very end.

This is a book well worth your time and you should absolutely give it a try, you won't be sorry, that I can assure you.
